Hear, hear. I have a friend in the US, a high-end domestic achitect. He recently asked me to contract with a Vancouver Island mill for several thousand board feet of first grade (old growth if possible, but mature second growth if need be) Doug Fir. It is his opinion that sales finalized before any US import duties are imposed will not have to pay the duties, and his clients want BC fir, as opposed to what is currently for sale in the USA. According to him, most US lumber is garbage, and he cannot depend on US suppliers to sort the good from the bad.

I think that a Canadian tax on raw logs, and even on prime BC fir lumber exports, would be to our advantage.
