National Pharmacare

On Thursday, February 20th, 2014 in Get Involved

National PharmacareMore is spent on prescription drug costs than doctors, and skyrocketing drug costs threaten the sustainability of our health care system. Unfortunately, over 3 million Canadians are uninsured or under‐insured for drug coverage.

By negotiating purchases in bulk and combining administration costs, a single pharmacare program could save billions. However, Canada is one of the few industrialized countries without a national pharmacare program.

Help Elizabeth establish a national pharmacare program! Sign below or download this petition, have as many people as possible to sign it, and mail it – postage free – to either her Ottawa or Sidney offices. With as few as 25 signatures, Elizabeth can present your petition to the government in the House of Commons.

  • Establish a Canada‐wide prescription drug program, phasing in drug coverage for all citizens, beginning with catastrophic drug costs,
  • Reduce the costs of prescription drugs for Canadians by implementing a bulk purchasing plan, and
  • Introduce measures to ensure that new drugs are evaluated through evidence‐based research to be more effective, before they are prescribed.

This is a step in the right direction. However, Canada must end the big Pharma’s monopoly and reestablish alternative medicine and remedies, which are often more efficient than the conventional treatments and much cheaper.
This would also guarantee freedom of choice for Canadians.

Yes I feel the same as Yoshi… we must have more options for our health awareness. I find Chinese medicine theory most educational … and have devoted the last 25 years of my life to educating others as well…. If I can help progress towards more options than just drugs or surgery let me know

Universal Health Care is only partially-delivered without subsidized pharmacological care to back it up. Just one of the commonly-prescribed chemotherapeutics, for example, costs three times what the average patient makes in a year.
