Protect the Kipawa Lakes System

On Thursday, February 20th, 2014 in Get Involved

Protect Kipawa Lakes SystemKipawa Lake and the surrounding areas have significant economic value as a wilderness area and is of cultural and historical significance to the Algonquin First Nation.

Mining projects risk irreversibly destroying this fragile ecosystem, including damage to local flora and fauna as well as to human health. No rare earths mining project has operated in the world without significant damage to the environment and to human health.

Canada’s environmental laws were not drafted to protect against the unique risks of exploration and mining for rare earth minerals, and are not sufficient to protect the fragile Kipawa Lake system in the face of the current proposal.

Our precious wilderness should be protected. What kind of place do you think this will be when it’s all destroyed.
