Security Certificates

On Thursday, January 12th, 2012 in Get Involved

By using a security certificate, CSIS has the authority to detain a resident indefinitely and without charge on the basis of hidden information. They are inherently open to abuse and violate an individual’s right to a fair trial.

Help Elizabeth push the federal government to end the use of security certificates. Sign the petition below or download this petition, get as many people as possible to sign it, and mail it – postage free – to either her Ottawa or Sidney offices. With as few as 25 signatures, Elizabeth can present your petition to the government in the House of Commons.

Harper & Toews want their own version of Homeland Security. Hell no. Not in Canada. Canadian police already abuse the hell out of their power, tasing people to death with impunity & no consequences. Anybody else would be charged with MURDER, yet these legalized Canadian mafia members are walking our streets, in all of our communities, putting all of us at risk. The last thing we need is CSIS having absolute power over any Canadian resident they choose, with no legal repercussions on their end.

Still a few days for anyone, for free .. to get Joyce Murray into the Liberal Leadership. She has committed to working with Greens & NDP to prevent another catastrophe ..

Our freedom is being lost to security

    • Angel

What freedom? THAT is an illusion.

      • GC_Toronto

Exactly. I too once thought that, as Canadians, we had freedom. But over the last 5 years I have learned otherwise. Look closely and you’ll see that is far from the case. Archaic laws, billions of our dollars wasted each year by our government keeping us constantly in debt, internet spying on citizens, Harper’s exec order allowing US troops on our soil “in the event of civil unrest”, and of course the G20 Summit violence by Toronto’s police force backed by the federal government are just a few indications that at any time we are only a step or two from martial law. Think about it – Toronto now has three sound cannons… Why?

1984 is dead and gone. Why go backwards ??

Habeous Corpus needs to have teeth in it once again.

  • ted

Imprisonment without trial is a corruption of justice.

Theses oppressed by corrupt justice must rise up, revolt until their burden is removed and true justice is returned.

The use of “Security Certificates” is abhorrent in a supposedly free and democratic society. Combined with their jackboot approach to EI “compliance” and it appears this so-called government intends to rule via fear and intimidation.

I won’t live in fear of the government. I’ve never had to in the past and I won’t start now.

just counting the days to the next election…

  • Ottawa Bound

“Habeous Corpus” was tossed long ago by family court extremists in most provincial jurisdictions; except of course family friendly Quebec. So, when its been ‘open season’ on Fathers for so long, how can anyone be surprised when “all” our rights disappear ? Divided we fall..

  • DanMar Dinsmore

Thank you Elizabeth May. We need to stop the Police State

  • Sara Golling

We have no “security” if we can be arrested without charges, detained indefinitely on hidden (and possibly false) information …

  • Daniel Ross

I propose that we rename ourselves the Democratic Peoples Republic of Canada, the One True Democracy. We must secure ourselves against seditious thoughts and beliefs such as ‘freedom’, ‘transparency’, and against the subversive influence of the interwebs. Seriously though, if there is a protest, I will be making a DPR

and to think we are expected to swallow the B s story that communism was defeated with the collapse of the Iron curtain

    • dfinlay

This is leaning in the direction of totalitarianism, not communism. Although communism often (always?) leads to totalitarianism, you can easily have totalitarianism without communism. To say that this is so much as hinting of communism in our society is absurd.

The other Means of security breach is thru the cyberspace. I watch Charlie Rose every night at 5:00 pm on Channel 61. Tonight he had very high profile people on
& asked them abouth the threat of cyber war. This is a very definite possibility and has already compromised different locations in United States and probably Canada too.

What is next the patriot act, water boarding and drone surveillance and terminations? This is CANADA….remember….not a State between Alaska and Washington!
