Parliamentary Committee Volunteer in Office of Elizabeth May, MP
The office of Elizabeth May is seeking Committee Volunteers to assist with her work on Parliament Hill. The primary focus of the volunteer position is to play a key role in ensuring the Member is kept up to date on all developments in meetings of the House of Commons standing committees. The commitment is approximately 5 hours a week when the House of Commons is in session.
From Elizabeth May:
“As the first elected Green Party Member of Parliament and as Leader of the party, I have an ambitious Parliamentary agenda.
As an MP, I have a right to attend any and all committees, without being a member of any of them. As a result, I also have, as of right, the ability to propose amendments to legislation at committee. My office needs a full team of Committee Volunteers. Each will be asked to attend a specific committee, track its work, assist in research and help in preparing lists of proposed witnesses, review legislation and assist in the preparation of amendments.
We will provide Committee Volunteers with a work space & resources on the Hill in our office in Confederation Building; provide orientation and training; ensure Committee Volunteer has training opportunities to learn about the Library of Parliament and Media Relations; provide a parliamentary security pass so they can access all Parliament buildings and attend Committee meetings.
I pledge to provide a rich experience for bright young people.”
Elizabeth May, O.C., M.P. for Saanich-Gulf Islands, Leader of Green Party of Canada
