Dear Mr. Minister,
I am writing to you on behalf of one of my constituents, Sarah Johnson. Ms. Johnson has asked that you immediately review and issue Canadian visas to 12 children in the Democratic Republic of Congo that were adopted by Canadians. I trust that you are familiar with these cases.
The families that are adopting these children have all finished the necessary adoption procedures and have assumed full legal and financial responsibility for these children. Some of these families however, such as in the case of Fred and Shelley Muntau, have been waiting over a year for Citizenship and Immigration Canada to issue a Canadian visa for their children. Some of these children are as young as two years old and some have pressing medical concerns that require attention.
While I realize that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) must still issue an exit letter to these children, the Government of the DRC has stated that they cannot issue these letters until Citizenship and Immigration Canada issues their Canadian visas. Is there anything that can be done to help further this case?
