(OTTAWA) November 16, 2016 - Elizabeth May released the following statement for International Day of Tolerance 2016:
“Tolerance lies at the core of the Canadian and United Nations Charters, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the context of rising global tensions due to an unprecedented refugee crisis, tolerance is more important than ever at home and abroad. Extremism, misogyny, anti-semitism, xenophobia and racism have no place in a healthy democracy,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands).
Joe Foster, GPC Human Rights Critic said: “Personal views and preferences are part of what make us human. As Canadians, we share common values of peace, justice and human rights, even though we come from many cultures and ethnic backgrounds. The richness of our country is based on how well we embrace and celebrate these differences, not just tolerate them.”
