Elizabeth May to speak at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy

On Thursday, April 4th, 2019 in Press Releases

deliver the closing keynote address at the annual conference of the International Relations Society. The two-day conference on Building Biodiversity and Controlling Climate Change, will take place at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.

“We’re in a climate emergency and we have months, not years to take decisive action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Ms. May. “The recent Canada’s Changing Climate Report (CCCR) commissioned by Environment and Climate Change Canada, tells us that Canada is warming faster than anywhere else in the world. We need a plan to be free of fossil fuels by 2050.”

The Munk conference will explore the intersectionality of climate change, unpacking its effects on the political, economic, and socio-cultural arenas in international affairs and identify actions students and others can take now to effectively address climate change.

“The world once looked to Canada for guidance on climate change but that changed when the Harper government weakened our environmental policies and the Trudeau Liberals just adopted those weak targets. Now, there’s a real opportunity for Canada to once again take a global leadership role. This is a collective problem and we must work together to solve it.”
