OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada extends wishes for “Chag Pesach sameach!” / “Happy Passover!” to those celebrating the eight-day festival beginning at sunset.
Passover commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people from 400 years of slavery in Egypt. During this sacred time, families and friends gather for traditional seder dinners to celebrate hope, peace and freedom. The Passover seder is organized around the telling of the Passover story with all family members, across the generations, providing an opportunity for Jews to connect to their heritage and history.
“I wish our friends and family in the Jewish community chag sameach, a peaceful and joyful celebration,” said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands). “Greens worldwide believe in the right of all people to be free of suffering and persecution. This week, we reflect on the message of the Passover story – the importance of freedom.”
