OTTAWA <\/strong>\u2013 Voil\u00e0 un an le 29 d\u00e9cembre, le journaliste canadien Mohamed Fahmy a \u00e9t\u00e9 injustement emprisonn\u00e9 en \u00c9gypte. La chef du Parti vert du Canada et d\u00e9put\u00e9e de Saanich \u2013 Gulf Islands, Elizabeth May, a soulev\u00e9 l\u2019enjeu avec le premier ministre et le ministre des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res, John Baird. Mme May demande de nouveau au premier ministre de demander la lib\u00e9ration imm\u00e9diate de M. Fahmy.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Au cours de l\u2019ann\u00e9e, le premier ministre et le ministre des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res n\u2019ont pas fait grand-chose pour d\u00e9fendre publiquement M. Fahmy et demander sa lib\u00e9ration \u00bb, a affirm\u00e9 Mme May. \u00ab Anciennement, ce gouvernement a fait en sorte de prot\u00e9ger d\u2019autres Canadiens qui ont une double citoyennet\u00e9. Il ne devrait donc pas y avoir de raison qui explique le silence de ce gouvernement alors que M. Fahmy et sa famille souffrent. \u00bb <\/p>\n

M. Fahmy, un r\u00e9alisateur pour le service anglais de la cha\u00eene Al-Jazeera, a \u00e9t\u00e9 arr\u00eat\u00e9 au Caire l\u2019an dernier. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnu coupable en juin 2014 pour avoir soutenu les Fr\u00e8res musulmans et a re\u00e7u une sentence de sept ans de prison avec deux de ses coll\u00e8gues, l\u2019un de l\u2019Australie et l\u2019autre du Royaume-Uni. M. Fahmy en a appel\u00e9 de ce verdict et attend une d\u00e9cision par la Cour d\u2019appel de l\u2019\u00c9gypte, d\u00e9cision attendue pour le 1er janvier 2015. <\/p>\n

\u00ab Je crois que la libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression est un droit fondamental qui est non seulement d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat individuel, comme pour le journaliste canadien Mohamed Fahmy, mais aussi d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat collectif pour contribuer \u00e0 l\u2019avancement de la d\u00e9mocratie en \u00c9gypte \u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 le porte-parole du Parti vert en mati\u00e8re de droits de la personne, Joe Foster.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l\u2019heure actuelle, le Canada n\u2019a \u00e9mis qu\u2019une vague d\u00e9claration apr\u00e8s que M. Fahmy ait re\u00e7u sa sentence en juin 2014. En comparaison, le premier ministre australien, Tony Abbot, a effectu\u00e9 des pressions personnelles pour la lib\u00e9ration du journaliste australien, Peter Greste. De plus, le premier ministre britannique, David Cameron, a vertement d\u00e9nonc\u00e9 le verdict. Les \u00c9tats-Unis, qui n\u2019ont aucun citoyen impliqu\u00e9 dans ce cas, ont qualifi\u00e9 les sentences des journalistes de troublantes et draconiennes \u00bb. <\/p>\n

M. Fahmy a louang\u00e9 le travail de l\u2019ambassade du Canada au Caire. Il a cependant affirm\u00e9 dans une entrevue \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9mission The Fifth Estate sur CBC qu\u2019il a d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment besoin de l\u2019intervention du gouvernement du Canada. <\/p>\n

Mme May a conclu que M. Fahmy qui est un citoyen canadien qui n\u2019a aucun dossier criminel souffre beaucoup physiquement et psychologiquement en raison de son incarc\u00e9ration. <\/p>\n

\u00ab La sant\u00e9 de M. Fahmy continue \u00e0 se d\u00e9t\u00e9riorer en prison. J\u2019exhorte donc le premier ministre \u00e0 faire une d\u00e9claration publique forte en demandant au pr\u00e9sident \u00e9gyptien, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, d\u2019accorder son pardon ou de lib\u00e9rer le journaliste canadien pour des motifs humanitaires \u00bb, a affirm\u00e9 Mme May.
