Ce que je peux faire de plus utile en 60 secondes est de citer des passages d&#8217;une lettre publi\u00e9e dans les journaux nationaux par un r\u00e9sidant de ma circonscription dont le nom ne sera pas \u00e9tranger aux d\u00e9put\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">Ron Wright, qui a particip\u00e9 aux conf\u00e9rences Massey et est l&#8217;auteur de l&#8217;essai Br\u00e8ve histoire du progr\u00e8s, souligne dans sa lettre que, dans son livre Stolen Continents, il parle de la crise d&#8217;Oka et qu&#8217;il voit des parall\u00e8les. Il dit ceci: [&#8230;] [comme] les Mohawks, les Wet&#8217;suwet&#8217;en n&#8217;ont jamais [perdu] leur souverainet\u00e9 ancestrale en tant que peuple ind\u00e9pendant. Selon le droit international, ajoute-t-il, il n&#8217;existe que deux fa\u00e7ons pour un peuple de perdre sa souverainet\u00e9: une conqu\u00eate arm\u00e9e ou la signature d&#8217;un trait\u00e9 dans lequel il y renonce. Nous ne sommes devant aucun de ces deux cas. Il poursuit en ajoutant: Comme les Mohawks, les Wet&#8217;suwet&#8217;en ont un syst\u00e8me d&#8217;autonomie gouvernementale tr\u00e8s ancien ant\u00e9rieur \u00e0 l&#8217;occupation europ\u00e9enne et toujours en vigueur aujourd&#8217;hui.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">Enfin, il conclut en indiquant que les conseils de bande \u00e9lus mis sur pied aux termes de la Loi sur les Indiens administrent seulement les petits territoires d\u00e9finis comme des r\u00e9serves. Il est clair que la primaut\u00e9 du droit dans ce cas-ci n&#8217;a rien de flou et n&#8217;est pas appliqu\u00e9e d&#8217;un seul c\u00f4t\u00e9.
