Claude Gravelle: <\/strong>Madame la Pr\u00e9sidente, j’ai l’honneur de pr\u00e9senter aujourd’hui mon projet de loi, la Loi concernant une strat\u00e9gie nationale sur la d\u00e9mence.<\/p>\n

Le projet de loi d\u00e9coule de ce que ma propre famille a v\u00e9cu avec ma m\u00e8re. Bien longtemps avant sa mort en 2003 \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge de 83 ans, ma m\u00e8re a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 avoir de flagrantes pertes de m\u00e9moire. Au d\u00e9but, elle oubliait des casseroles sur le feu ou des rendez-vous, puis elle a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 oublier ses m\u00e9dicaments, \u00e0 perdre ses mots, \u00e0 conna\u00eetre des changements d’humeur, \u00e0 perdre son esprit d’initiative et \u00e0 avoir des comportements agressifs.<\/p>\n

Mon p\u00e8re, mes soeurs et ma femme ont appris \u00e0 s’occuper d’elle, ce qui \u00e9tait une t\u00e2che \u00e9crasante.<\/p>\n

Le cas de ma m\u00e8re n’est pas unique. Plus de 500 000 Canadiens sont atteints de la maladie d’Alzheimer ou de d\u00e9mences apparent\u00e9es. On estime que, dans moins d’une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, 1,1 million de Canadiens seront atteints d’une de ces maladies.<\/p>\n

Mon projet de loi pr\u00e9voit l’\u00e9laboration d’un plan national abordant tous les aspects de la maladie d’Alzheimer et des autres formes de d\u00e9mence. Il favoriserait la recherche, la pr\u00e9vention et la mise en place de mesures concr\u00e8tes d’aide aux aidants naturels.<\/p>\n

L’\u00e9laboration d’une strat\u00e9gie nationale sur la d\u00e9mence est une question non partisane. J’invite donc les d\u00e9put\u00e9s de tous les partis \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 l’adoption de ce projet de loi.<\/p>\n
