Je tiens \u00e0 remercier la d\u00e9put\u00e9e de Vancouver-Est d&#8217;avoir appuy\u00e9 cette mesure l\u00e9gislative.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet de loi modifierait la Loi sur les p\u00eaches afin d&#8217;interdire l&#8217;importation de nageoires de requin au Canada et \u00e9tablirait une interdiction l\u00e9gislative concernant la pratique de l&#8217;enl\u00e8vement des nageoires de requin dans les eaux canadiennes.<\/p>\n<p>Le requin, qui est un pr\u00e9dateur situ\u00e9 au sommet de la cha\u00eene alimentaire, joue un r\u00f4le essentiel dans le maintien de la sant\u00e9 de nos oc\u00e9ans. Toutefois, le nombre de requins est en chute libre partout dans le monde. Selon les scientifiques, jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 73 millions de requins sont tu\u00e9s chaque ann\u00e9e pour leurs nageoires, souvent par l&#8217;enl\u00e8vement des nageoires, une horrible pratique qui consiste \u00e0 couper les nageoires du requin pour ensuite jeter le corps dans la mer.<\/p>\n<p>En 2009, l&#8217;Union Internationale pour la conservation de la nature a rapport\u00e9 que plus du tiers des requins, toutes esp\u00e8ces comprises, sont menac\u00e9s d&#8217;extinction \u00e0 cause de la pratique de l&#8217;enl\u00e8vement des nageoires.<\/p>\n<p>La meilleure fa\u00e7on de lutter contre l&#8217;enl\u00e8vement ill\u00e9gal des nageoires de requin est de mettre fin \u00e0 leur commerce international. En adoptant une mesure l\u00e9gislative visant \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger les requins, le Canada peut devenir un chef de file dans le domaine de la conservation des requins et de l&#8217;intendance des
