OTTAWA – Le Parti vert du Canada demande au gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral d’expliquer pourquoi il semble avoir abandonn\u00e9 l’engagement pris dans le cadre de l’Accord de Paris sur le climat de limiter l’augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature moyenne mondiale \u00e0 1,5 degr\u00e9 C au maximum.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous assistons \u00e0 un tour de magie politique \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le chef int\u00e9rimaire du Parti vert Amita Kuttner. \u00ab Sous nos yeux, le gouvernement fait dispara\u00eetre sa promesse de Paris et sort du chapeau quelque chose de tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rent – l\u2019objectif de carboneutralit\u00e9 d’ici 2050. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous ne sommes pas dupes et la population canadienne ne devrait pas l’\u00eatre non plus. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une tentative habile de renier notre engagement \u00e0 1,5 degr\u00e9 C et de le remplacer par un objectif plus acceptable pour l’industrie canadienne des combustibles fossiles. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le Dr Kuttner s’exprimait alors que le Parti vert a d\u00e9pos\u00e9 une soumission<\/a> \u00e0 la br\u00e8ve consultation publique en ligne du gouvernement sur la Loi canadienne sur la responsabilit\u00e9 concernant la carboneutralit\u00e9. Dans sa soumission, le Dr Kuttner se joint au caucus vert et aux sp\u00e9cialistes en mati\u00e8re de climat du Cabinet fant\u00f4me pour demander au gouvernement de s’engager \u00e0 nouveau dans l’objectif de Paris et d’abandonner l’objectif \u00ab inad\u00e9quat et dangereux \u00bb de carboneutralit\u00e9 d’ici 2050.<\/p>\n

Le m\u00e9moire fournit des conseils d\u00e9taill\u00e9s sur les sept sujets \u00e9num\u00e9r\u00e9s dans l’enqu\u00eate, pr\u00e9sentant un large \u00e9ventail de mesures qui permettront au Canada de r\u00e9duire ses \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre de 60 % par rapport aux niveaux de 2005 d’ici 2030. Il s\u2019agit de l’ampleur des r\u00e9ductions n\u00e9cessaires pour respecter les engagements pris \u00e0 Paris.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Les d\u00f4mes de chaleur, les inondations, les glissements de terrain, les incendies et les s\u00e9cheresses des 12 derniers mois font passer le message : chaque tonne de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre compte \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le chef parlementaire du Parti vert, Elizabeth May (d\u00e9put\u00e9e de Saanich-Gulf Islands). \u00ab Chaque augmentation du r\u00e9chauffement climatique repr\u00e9sente une menace accrue pour des millions de personnes et d’esp\u00e8ces. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous croyons qu’en prenant imm\u00e9diatement des mesures significatives pour maintenir l\u2019augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature moyenne mondiale \u00e0 1,5 degr\u00e9 C, le Canada pourrait exercer un impact plan\u00e9taire important \u00e0 un moment o\u00f9 le leadership mondial fait cruellement d\u00e9faut. \u00bb<\/p>\n
