Malgr\u00e9 de nombreux appels visant \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger les phares comme des actifs publics faisant partie du patrimoine culturel du Canada, le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral a choisi de faire la sourde oreille et de se d\u00e9partir de cette responsabilit\u00e9. Pr\u00e8s d\u2019un millier de phares sont menac\u00e9s d’abandon au Canada, y compris celui de Peggy\u2019s Cove, en Nouvelle \u00c9cosse. Les Canadiennes et les Canadiens ont \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9s \u00e0 proposer des phares en vertu de la Loi sur la protection des phares patrimoniaux, mais la date limite pour le faire approche \u00e0 grands pas et des phares importants n\u2019ont toujours pas \u00e9t\u00e9 inscrits \u00e0 la liste.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Ma circonscription de Saanich\u2014Gulf Islands compte au moins deux phares importants menac\u00e9s d’abandon, soit Porlier Pass et Portlock Point. Nous avons travaill\u00e9 de concert avec des citoyennes et des citoyens qui veulent pr\u00e9server ces structures \u00bb, a dit Elizabeth May, d\u00e9put\u00e9e de Saanich\u2014Gulf Islands et chef du Parti vert du Canada.<\/p>\n

Les deux principaux phares touch\u00e9s dans Saanich\u2014Gulf Islands sont :<\/p>\n

  1. Porlier Pass Rear Range, sur l\u2019\u00eele Galliano, un phare d\u00e9sign\u00e9 comme \u00e9tant \u00ab actif \u00bb n\u2019ayant pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9 pour \u00eatre d\u00e9sign\u00e9 \u00ab phare patrimonial \u00bb;<\/li>\n
  2. Portlock Point, jug\u00e9 \u00ab exc\u00e9dentaire \u00bb, n\u2019a pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9 pour \u00eatre d\u00e9sign\u00e9 \u00ab phare patrimonial \u00bb.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    D\u2019autres phares qui risquent d\u2019\u00eatre affect\u00e9s par la politique f\u00e9d\u00e9rale ont \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9s pour recevoir le statut de \u00ab phare patrimonial \u00bb, y compris ceux d\u2019Active Pass et d\u2019East Point (\u00eele Saturna).<\/p>\n

    La Loi sur la protection des phares patrimoniaux adopt\u00e9e en 2008 pr\u00e9voyait un processus de s\u00e9lection et de d\u00e9signation des phares patrimoniaux par la population. D\u2019autres phares seront tout simplement vendus.<\/p>\n
