Citons notamment l&#8217;affaire de David Chen et du magasin Lucky Moose. Nous aurions souhait\u00e9 que les policiers sur place fassent preuve de bon sens et de discr\u00e9tion en ne poursuivant pas l&#8217;individu en justice. Beaucoup d&#8217;entre nous craignent que cette mesure l\u00e9gislative fasse augmenter les blessures, voire les d\u00e9c\u00e8s, car les gens tenteront de se faire justice eux-m\u00eames puisque la Chambre, avec le projet de loi C-26, leur donnera l&#8217;impression de pouvoir le faire.<\/p>\n<p>Puisque je suis la seule d\u00e9put\u00e9e qui pr\u00e9voit voter contre, ce projet de loi sera in\u00e9vitablement adopt\u00e9. Je demande \u00e0 mon ami s&#8217;il croit que la Chambre pourrait, d&#8217;une fa\u00e7on ou d&#8217;une autre, faire comprendre aux Canadiens qu&#8217;ils devraient \u00e9viter de se faire justice eux-m\u00eames.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sean Casey :<\/strong> Madame la Pr\u00e9sidente, c&#8217;est une question difficile puisque nous, en tant que l\u00e9gislateurs, sommes en train d&#8217;\u00e9largir les droits relatifs \u00e0 l&#8217;arrestation par des citoyens. Nous, les l\u00e9gislateurs, d\u00e9battons du projet de loi et faisons part de nos pr\u00e9occupations \u00e0 son sujet, mais ce qui reste grav\u00e9 dans l&#8217;esprit des citoyens, c&#8217;est ce qu&#8217;ils lisent dans les m\u00e9dias.<\/p>\n<p>Nous, les l\u00e9gislateurs, faisons ce que nous pouvons aujourd&#8217;hui, dans la mesure de nos moyens, mais il est tr\u00e8s difficile de contr\u00f4ler le message. Comme le souligne la d\u00e9put\u00e9e, certains membres de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 estimeront avoir plus de pouvoirs en raison de ces notions \u00e9largies. Comme elle l&#8217;a indiqu\u00e9, les causes difficiles donnent lieu \u00e0 de mauvaises lois. Il y aura sans aucun doute des causes o\u00f9 l&#8217;on invoquera le droit \u00e9largi \u00e0 la l\u00e9gitime d\u00e9fense ou \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense des biens pour justifier des actes inappropri\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>J&#8217;esp\u00e8re bien que la couverture m\u00e9diatique entourant ces causes difficiles \u00e9clairera le jugement des Canadiens. Je pense qu&#8217;il est plus probable que les m\u00e9dias influencent l&#8217;opinion publique que les d\u00e9bats que nous, l\u00e9gislateurs, tenons ici puisque ces derniers sont parfois, par
