Irene Mathyssen :<\/strong> Madame la Pr\u00e9sidente, je pr\u00e9sente une p\u00e9tition sign\u00e9e par un grand nombre d’\u00e9lecteurs qui demandent au gouvernement de mettre fin \u00e0 la pauvret\u00e9 chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Il y a pr\u00e8s d’un an, j’ai pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 la Chambre une motion demandant au gouvernement de bonifier les prestations du Suppl\u00e9ment de revenu garanti afin de pouvoir sortir les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es de la pauvret\u00e9. Un an plus tard, le gouvernement n’a rien fait, si ce n’est nous offrir de faux r\u00e9gimes de pension et brandir la menace de r\u00e9duire la S\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la vieillesse…<\/p>\n

La vice-pr\u00e9sidente :<\/strong> Je suis d\u00e9sol\u00e9e d’interrompre la d\u00e9put\u00e9e, mais le whip en chef du gouvernement invoque le R\u00e8glement.<\/p>\n

L’hon. Gordon O’Connor :<\/strong> Madame la Pr\u00e9sidente, j’invoque le R\u00e8glement. Les d\u00e9put\u00e9s qui pr\u00e9sentent des p\u00e9titions ne sont pas cens\u00e9s se prononcer en faveur de celles-ci ni faire de commentaires sur celles-ci. Ils sont seulement cens\u00e9s les lire.<\/p>\n

La vice-pr\u00e9sidente :<\/strong> Est-ce que la d\u00e9put\u00e9e de Saanich\u2014Gulf Islands invoque le R\u00e8glement pour la m\u00eame raison?<\/p>\n

Elizabeth May :<\/strong> Oui, madame la Pr\u00e9sidente. Je veux seulement m’assurer que je comprends bien le R\u00e8glement et ce que le whip du gouvernement a dit.<\/p>\n

Je comprends bien que nous ne sommes pas cens\u00e9s lire les p\u00e9titions et que nous sommes cens\u00e9s les r\u00e9sumer. Je conviens que nous ne sommes pas cens\u00e9s faire de longs discours \u00e0 leur sujet. Je ne pense pas qu’il soit appropri\u00e9 de lire les p\u00e9titions.<\/p>\n

La vice-pr\u00e9sidente :<\/strong> Je remercie les d\u00e9put\u00e9s de leurs observations. Pour que les choses soient bien claires, il est tout \u00e0 fait vrai que les p\u00e9titions ne doivent pas \u00eatre lues textuellement. Elles doivent \u00eatre r\u00e9sum\u00e9es. L’exercice ne consiste pas \u00e0 exprimer son appui ou son opposition \u00e0 la p\u00e9tition, mais bien \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter l’opinion des p\u00e9titionnaires.<\/p>\n

Je demanderais \u00e0 la d\u00e9put\u00e9e de London\u2014Fanshawe de conclure la pr\u00e9sentation de sa p\u00e9tition afin que d’autres puissent prendre la parole.<\/p>\n
