Elizabeth May<\/strong> : Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, je remercie mon coll\u00e8gue de Western Arctic pour son expos\u00e9, et je souscris \u00e0 tout ce qu’il a dit. J’ai h\u00e2te de voter en faveur de cette motion.<\/p>\n

Je me dis parfois que l’art s’inspire de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Bon nombre d’entre nous ont appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 le livre de Terry Fallis The Best Laid Plans et sa suite The High Road, dont la pr\u00e9misse est l’effondrement d’un pont et dont le contexte politique se tient; il y est question de nombreux gouvernements successifs dont le d\u00e9ficit budg\u00e9taire aurait entra\u00een\u00e9 un d\u00e9ficit infrastructurel.<\/p>\n

Je soul\u00e8ve ce point parce que personne ici n’a parl\u00e9 d’une \u00e9vidence qui s’impose, \u00e0 savoir qu’on a tellement n\u00e9glig\u00e9 les infrastructures qu’elles sont d\u00e9labr\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes investissaient dans l’avenir et pensaient \u00e0 long terme. Si nous n’adoptons pas cette motion et que nous n’accroissons pas les investissements dans les infrastructures et ne prenons pas la situation au s\u00e9rieux, nous condamnons les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures \u00e0 vivre dans des villes dignes du tiers monde.<\/p>\n

Je me demande si mon coll\u00e8gue a d’autres observations \u00e0 formuler \u00e0 ce sujet.<\/p>\n

Dennis Bevington<\/strong> :\u00a0Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, les infrastructures canadiennes peuvent \u00eatre compar\u00e9es aux v\u00eatements que nous portons. Prenons nos souliers comme exemple. Si nous portons des souliers bon march\u00e9, nous les usons rapidement et nous nous retrouvons avec des probl\u00e8mes de pieds plus tard dans la vie. Si nous ne nous habillons pas ad\u00e9quatement et ne conservons pas notre chaleur, nous avons plus de risques de tomber malades.<\/p>\n

Tout ce que nous faisons dans nos vies est important. Nous sommes \u00e0 l’heure actuelle aux prises avec des probl\u00e8mes qui d\u00e9bordent les fronti\u00e8res canadiennes et qui touchent le monde entier. Par cons\u00e9quent, d’une part, nous avons une responsabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 l’endroit du Canada et nous devons restaurer nos infrastructures et nous y appliquer; d’autre part, nous devons donner l’exemple et collaborer avec le reste du monde pour qu’on puisse comprendre ce qu’on entend par infrastructures de qualit\u00e9. Il faut aussi trouver comment nous pouvons am\u00e9liorer nos habitudes de vie pour que nos petits-enfants ne se retrouvent pas devant rien.<\/p>\n
