Elizabeth May<\/strong> :\u00a0Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, je me soucie beaucoup du fait que nous pourrions plus rapidement corriger le d\u00e9ficit d\u00e9mocratique au Parlement en prenant des mesures qui ne nous obligent pas \u00e0 rouvrir la Constitution: nous pourrions notamment \u00e9liminer l’exigence pour un chef de signer les d\u00e9clarations de candidature ou limiter le pouvoir malsain du Cabinet du premier ministre.<\/p>\n

Quoi qu’il en soit, \u00e0 mon avis, le projet de loi C-7 ne constitue pas une r\u00e9forme du S\u00e9nat. C’est une bouillie pour chats qui exigerait l’\u00e9tablissement de nouvelles normes pour les \u00e9lections des s\u00e9nateurs tenues dans les provinces et qui changerait les r\u00e8gles r\u00e9gissant les activit\u00e9s de financement pour une liste de personnes qui pourraient \u00e9ventuellement \u00eatre nomm\u00e9es par le premier ministre.<\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9put\u00e9 de Wellington\u2014Halton Hills pense-t-il honn\u00eatement que le premier ministre nommerait David Suzuki comme s\u00e9nateur s’il \u00e9tait \u00e9lu par les habitants de la Colombie-Britannique?<\/p>\n

Michael Chong<\/strong>:\u00a0Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, en deux mots, je pense que le premier ministre nommerait bel et bien M. Suzuki au S\u00e9nat. Le premier ministre est un d\u00e9mocrate. Il croit fermement en la d\u00e9mocratie. Si les habitants de la Colombie-Britannique devaient \u00e9lire M.
