Lorsqu&#8217;il est revenu du travail, il a dit qu&#8217;on n&#8217;arrivait pas \u00e0 le retrouver. C&#8217;\u00e9tait bien s\u00fbr une question de comptabilit\u00e9, mais j&#8217;\u00e9tais toute jeune et je me souviens d&#8217;avoir dit: \u00ab Regardez dans les poubelles. Il est \u00e0 quelque part, c&#8217;est certain. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Je trouve que certains d\u00e9put\u00e9s conservateurs comprennent mal ce que repr\u00e9sente le fait d&#8217;avoir perdu la trace de 3,1 milliards de dollars. Leur r\u00e9action ressemble \u00e0 celle que j&#8217;avais eue, enfant, lorsque j&#8217;avais dit que la somme manquante n&#8217;\u00e9tait pas vraiment perdue. Ils ne savent pas o\u00f9 elle est, mais elle n&#8217;est pas vraiment perdue.<\/p>\n<p>Selon moi, nous comprenons tous que les exercices de v\u00e9rification permettent de v\u00e9rifier les comptes et de savoir \u00e0 quoi tels ou tels fonds ont servi. C&#8217;est le r\u00f4le du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Celui-ci doit v\u00e9rifier que le gouvernement g\u00e8re bien les fonds publics et qu&#8217;il sait comment toutes les sommes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pens\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Si on a perdu la trace des 3,1 milliards de dollars, mon coll\u00e8gue de Nickel Belt convient-il qu&#8217;il faut comprendre que cette somme est disparue?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claude Gravelle :<\/strong> Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, je suis tout \u00e0 fait d&#8217;accord avec la d\u00e9put\u00e9e: cette somme est disparue. Les conservateurs n&#8217;ont qu&#8217;\u00e0 remettre au v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral les documents n\u00e9cessaires qui lui permettront de retrouver les fonds manquants.
