On Tuesday this week, Mike and Elizabeth held a press conference outlining their priorities ahead of President Biden’s visit to Canada later this month, including encouraging Canada to catch up to the United States’ climate action and goals, which consistently outrank Canada’s.
This week, Elizabeth and Mike observed International Women’s Day. Elizabeth really enjoyed being shadowed in Parliament by two young women from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) as part of the Women in the House program. Women in the House promotes women’s participation in Canadian politics.
On Wednesday, Elizabeth and Mike heard a historic address from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
All of Elizabeth’s amendments on Bill S-5, which would update the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) have been heard in the Environment Committee, and all were rejected. Elizabeth’s amendments would have strengthened the act many ways. She is no longer certain that she will be able to vote for Bill S-5 in its weakened state.
