Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising Gender Equality Week:
“I’m pleased to celebrate Gender Equality Week! In 2024 we still see disparities between genders, particularly in wage gaps. Women and gender-diverse people who are visible minorities still earn significantly less than non-visible minority men. This is unacceptable. Parliament must do more to address and elevate gender issues. In 2019 I called for a leaders debate to promote women’s rights and gender equality in the federal election campaign. As Canadians we pledge to keep moving forward in the struggle to achieve true gender equality and equity.”
