Today Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands, honoured the victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 and the anniversary of the downing of the flight:
“Today we remember the 167 passengers and nine crew members who were unjustly and tragically taken from us too soon by an attack against Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 in 2020.
Everybody has a connection to a connection. My friend and professor at the University of Guelph spoke about the loss of one of his graduate students, Ghanimat Azhdari, who was researching the nomadic Indigenous peoples of Iran. We will never know the extent of the impact her work could have had on Indigenous rights in Iran. We will never forget all those who lost their lives on this day.”
