The Green Wave gathers momentum as Paul Manly sweeps to victory in Nanaimo-Ladysmith!

SIDNEY, B.C. — Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich Gulf-Islands) hailed the dawn of a new era in federal politics after Green candidate Paul Manly’s historic victory in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith by-election today. The Vancouver Island riding has traditionally been an NDP stronghold. The win doubles Green Party complement in the House of Commons, where Ms. May has served as a Green MP since 2011.

“I am deeply grateful to Paul Manly,” said Ms. May. “His team of volunteers and, most of all, to the voters of Nanaimo Ladysmith. it is brave to vote for real change. Paul and I will work tirelessly to continue to earn the trust of Canadians. Paul will make Nanaimo-Ladysmith proud.”

“I am so proud of the campaign our team ran,” said Manly. “This was a community and volunteer-driven effort from start to finish. Over the course of the campaign I had the chance to speak with thousands of people in the riding and I’m ready to take their concerns with me as I head to Ottawa. I can’t wait to join Elizabeth and hit the ground running in Parliament.”

Manly, a researcher, filmmaker and communications specialist, has deep roots in the community and was the Green Party candidate in 2015 when he finished fourth with 20 percent of the vote.
