Elizabeth will attend and serve meals to guests at the 30th Annual Sampson Family Intertribal: HONOURING WƏTANMY POWWOW. The event takes place from July 25-27 and Elizabeth will attend on Saturday, July 26 from 7:00-10:00 PM Pacific Time.
Each year the Sampson family gathers to honour the teachings of ancestors on the Nez Perce side of their heritage. Alice “Wətanmy” Sampson was born into the Nez Perce Nation in Ahsahka, Idaho. She was very proud of her heritage, but when she came to marry Father Francis Sampson, she let go of the teachings of the Nez Perce ways and lived his cultural practices & way of life (Coast Salish). When he passed away, Alice began visiting family in Idaho and returned to the powwow. She passed on her teachings of the powwow to her children, and today they carry on those traditions and teach them to their children and grandchildren. Throughout this weekend they will share just a little of Mother’s cultural ways.
