Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, will join the Indigenous leaders from New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario in a press conference regarding nuclear waste on Indigenous homelands on April 30 at 10:30am ET.
The Government of Canada is investing in and promoting an expansion of nuclear energy across the country. Already, dozens of communities have radioactively contaminated sites on their homelands, and they and others must carefully consider the impacts of proposed permanent repositories for nuclear waste on the next seven generations.
At the press conference, Indigenous leaders will share their concerns about the existing situation of nuclear waste and the proposed expansion of the nuclear industry which will generate even more waste that must be safely contained for hundreds of thousands of years.
NOTE: A recording of the press conference will be shared to this website after it concludes.
