Re: “May should get her aircraft straight,” April 18.
The letter writer thinks I need to brush up on my jet knowledge. The attributes of the F-35 from my 2010 article came straight from the press material used by the minister of defence in his announcement.
As the recent report from the auditor general attests, the operational requirements for the purchase of replacement aircraft have never been set out – not to the House of Commons and not even to Public Works.
I am not sure where I should have looked for details of the operational requirements other than the sources I used. The essence of the failings identified by the auditor general is that no one in government could get their aircraft facts straight.
