August 15th is National Acadian Day

The Green Party of Canada wishes to mark National Acadian Day on August 15th 2013.

“The date of August 15 was chosen as National Acadian Day during the first national Acadian convention, held in New Brunswick in 1881,” said Green Leader Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands.

“Since the Deportation of 1755, the Acadian people’s history is one of perseverance. The cultural boom Acadia is experiencing now, especially in music with the likes of Lisa LeBlanc and Radio Radio, would not have been possible without 400 years of tenacity,” said May.

“National Acadian Day is an opportunity for all New Brunswickers to celebrate. I wish all Acadians a great National Day,” said David Coon, Green Party of New Brunswick’s leader.
