Elizabeth May statement for Canadian Environment Week

OTTAWA – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement for Canadian Environment Week:

“This week is an opportunity to raise awareness and take action to defend our environment. We are reminded that preserving our environment is interconnected with many other goals – improving the health of Canadians and creating long-term jobs that will increase economic stability.

“Back in the mid-1980s, when I worked in the Mulroney administration, Environment Week was heralded by the ‎federal government with a million dollars in funding distributed to small community groups to run hundreds of events – from beach sweeps to tree plantings. After the 2015 election, I look forward to once again engaging Canadians in meaningful actions during Canadian Environment Week.

“As we face the growing threat of climate change, we can still take action to mitigate its impacts. Let’s confront this challenge together and leave a better world for future generations.”
