Elizabeth May Supports Bill C-420 – Create the Office of Commissioner for Children and Young Persons

Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, today lent her support for Marc Garneau’s Private Members’ Bill C-420, An Act to establish the Office of the Commissioner for Children and Young Persons in Canada.

The purpose of his bill is to establish an independent statutory officer, office of a commissioner of children and young persons, to advocate at a national level for the needs, views and rights of children and young persons, and to promote, monitor and report on the effective implementation of Canada’s obligations under the convention.

Ms. May held a press conference to support Mr. Garneau’s efforts, and was accompanied by Raffi, MP Bruce Hyer, former MP David Kilgour, and Senator Jim Munson.
