Re: “May’s proposal a recipe for disruption,” April 5.

The writer fails to understand that the economy and the environment are interconnected.

Promoting an increase in the use of oil will result in an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and in turn exacerbate climate change. The impacts of climate change are now self-evident.

The writer may criticize Saanich-Gulf Islands MP Elizabeth May, but in failing to include any mention of climate change in his letter he has unwittingly elevated May as the wiser of the two. She clearly understands how an increase in fossil fuels will, in the long run, necessitate paying for the impacts climate change will have not only in Canada but globally.
