Re: Letter of support for the National Strategy on Brain Injuries Act
We are proud to express our continued support for Bill C-277, the National Strategy on Brain Injuries Act. This bill will have a significant impact on survivors of brain injuries. We are grateful that MP Alistair MacGregor has tabled this long overdue legislation.
As a result of Parliament being prorogued until March 24, this legislation has unfortunately died on the order paper. In January, Elizabeth wrote to the other party leaders asking for a meeting to determine key pieces of legislation that must be brought back and passed prior to the call of the next federal election. Unfortunately no party leader to date has replied to this request to rescue good bills. As one example, we strongly support reviving Bill C-277, which has broad cross-party support, and passing it into law when Parliament resumes.
We want to thank the CGB Centre for Traumatic Life Losses, Brain Injury Canada, the BC Brain Injury Association, and brain injury associations, advocates, and survivors and their families across Canada that have informed and championed this important legislation.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth May, O.C.
