On Tuesday, October 16, the committee passed a motion to hold a committee briefing on the Canada-China investment promotion and protection agreement. The committee resumed its comprehensive study of the economic partnership agreement with Japan and heard testimony from five witnesses: Ray Price, President of the Canadian Meat Council; Barry Sutton, Vice-President of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.; Pablo Garrido, Owner of Savia Wine Agency; Jacqueline Sava, Director of Possibilites and Founder of Soak Wash Inc.; and Chris Wilkinson, Director of Sales and Operations of Soak Wash Inc. Witnesses discussed the importance of being able to export meat to the Japanese market, the non-tariff barriers that can distort trade, and the difference in market standards between the two nations.
