On the occasion of the 315th Vaisakhi, the Green Party of Canada would like to extend best wishes for a peaceful and joyous holiday season to Canada’s Sikh community.
Vaisakhi is a celebration of the anniversary of the inauguration of the Khalsa, the sovereign community of Sikhs, by Guru Gobind Singh. Vaisakhi is also a celebration of thanksgiving for the harvest. Each year, Sikhs around the world observe this holiday with feasts, songs, and processions.
The first Sikhs to immigrate to Canada settled near Vancouver around the turn of the last century. Today, Canada’s 470,000 Sikhs constitute an integral part of our country’s cultural mosaic.
The Green Party of Canada wishes all those celebrating today Khuśa visākhī!
