Statement in recognition of Ramadan

May 15, 2018
(OTTAWA) –

“When the sun sets today Muslims across Canada begin the holy month of Ramadan, a time for prayer, spiritual growth and fasting,” said Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands).

“Ramadan reminds us of Canada’s diversity, the many gifts this diversity bestows upon our country and of the importance of safeguarding religious freedom. At this time, we are painfully aware that millions of Muslims in the Middle East currently face war and displacement and cannot celebrate this holy month in the sanctity of their homes,” said Ms. May.

“I wish all Muslims peace and happiness during Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak!”
