Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising International Celiac Disease Day:
“Today is International Celiac Disease Day! I was pleased to join representatives of Celiac Canada earlier this month to talk about issues that people with celiac disease face in their daily lives. Gluten free options are not always available or are out of price range for many. As an example, if a loaf of bread costs $3-4, a smaller gluten-free loaf will cost $7-9! By developing stricter regulations governing allergens and product labelling, we can improve health outcomes for over 400,000 Canadians living with celiac disease.”
