Please see the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising the International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
“On this International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Canadians recognise that much work is still needed to address racism and hate. Our country is a cultural mosaic, but this does not make us perfect. It is clear that racial discrimination is on the rise in Canada and around the world.
Racial discrimination is always unacceptable, whether it takes the form of systematic discrimination in accessing services like health care or as outright violence. We have a collective duty, particularly allies, to stand against racial injustice and actively practice anti-racism in our actions. Greens are taking action to redress the systemic racism as experienced through the disproportionate sitting of toxic dumps and leaking oil sands impacting racialised communities and First Nations as we fight for environmental justice with my private members bill C-226.”
