Statement on National Day of Action and Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People

Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising National Day of Action and Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People:

“Today we recognise the National Day of Action and Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People. When the final report of the inquiry was released in 2019, the response needed from Canada was clearly laid out in 231 Calls for Justice. So many continue to go unfulfilled over half a decade later.

We must finish the work to save lives and end the violence, abduction and murder disproportionately experienced by Indigenous peoples. This is not about statistics. These are our sisters, aunties, mothers, grandmothers, children and grandchildren. We remember them always. Read the full report here: https://www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/final-report/”
