Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, has issued the following statement to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks:
“On September 11, the National Day of Service, we remember the hijacking of planes and conversion of innocent passenger travel into horrific weapons of terror – killing many more innocents and taking the lives of courageous firefighters and first responders. The planes crashed into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, with the fourth narrowly missing its Washington, D.C.-based target only because of the bravery of the passengers and crew on board. Nearly 3000 people were killed, including 26 Canadians, with thousands more suffering casualties.
I cannot begin to fully understand the pain felt by the families and loved ones of the victims of these senseless acts of evil. My heart is with them today and always.”
