Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising the International Day of Persons with Disabilities:
“On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I am keeping up calls for the government to finally end legislated poverty. The endless cycle of financial strain keeps so many from fully engaging in their communities.
I was proud to see the Canada Disability Benefit pass into law, but it is clear that the reality of the government’s plan – just $200 a month – is nowhere near enough. We must listen to the disability community and fix the benefit. Together we can build a more equitable Canada where everyone can live with dignity.”
