Statement on the tenth anniversary of the attack on Parliament Hill

Please read the following statement and watch the tribute from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising the ten year anniversary of the 2014 attack on Parliament Hill:

“Today marks ten years since the tragic attack at Parliament Hill when Corporal Nathan Cirillo was killed on guard at the National War Memorial. My thoughts are with his loved ones who suffered an unimaginable loss. This senseless and brutal attack could have harmed more inside the Parliament complex if not for the courage and heroism of former Sergeant-at-Arms, Kevin Vickers. I am forever grateful to him, Const. Curtis Barrett, and Const. Samearn Son who despite being unarmed took a gunshot to the leg to stop the attacker. Thank you to all members of the Parliamentary Protective Services for your work and to the brave Ottawa residents who risked their lives that day to stay with Corporal Cirillo.”
