Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising Women’s History Month and Persons Day:
“As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I want to also acknowledge Persons Day. This marks the landmark case “Edwards v. Canada (Attorney General)” that overruled Canadian courts and declared women to be “persons” under the law in 1929 (yes, it took that long!). I am so proud of how far women’s rights have come since then. Make sure to take time to learn about the rich history of women in Canada. The fight for equal rights for all women continues!”
