This week, Mike and Elizabeth both had questions during Question Period. Mike asked about the future of the deeply flawed Emissions Reduction Fund, while Elizabeth asked for an update on an illegal toxic waste dump contaminating Mohawk land in Kanesatake, Quebec.
During addresses in reply to the Speech from the Throne, Mike asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the increasing unaffordability of housing in Canada, and the government’s plans to implement a vacancy tax in 2022.
Elizabeth also gave a speech during a late-night debate on the softwood lumber dispute between Canada and the United States. She advocated for a ban on raw log exports and for forestry policy to have a long-term vision that includes an appreciation for the carbon-sequestration value of forests.
The Green Party’s new Interim Leader, Dr. Amita Kuttner, outlined the Green Party’s priorities for the 44th parliament in a press conference in Ottawa on December 1st.
