OTTAWA – Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) sends her condolences to the families coping with the loss of their loved ones murdered at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
“My heart goes out to the communities affected by this senseless and violent act of anti-semitism,” said Ms. May. “It’s truly horrifying to see such abhorrent sentiments resurface anywhere but especially in the United States, a country that had made great progress with respect to tolerance and respecting difference. And, what’s particularly vile about this hate crime is that the Tree of Life community was targeted because of their work helping refugees.”
“Today, we pause to grieve with the families who lost their kin. But tomorrow we must return to fighting for human rights and respect for diversity and against the ghastly tide of racism and xenophobia that is rising in many parts of the world.”
