OTTAWA – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands, supports Bell Canada’s efforts to initiate a national conversation on mental health through their annual Let’s Talk Mental Health Day.
“The stigma surrounding mental illness is a major obstacle towards effective treatment and care,” Ms. May said. “We need to continually have a national conversation to raise awareness about the burden of mental illness. That is why initiatives like Bell’s Let’s Talk Mental Health Day are so important.”
Bell started Let’s Talk Mental Health Day five years ago. Its goals are to end the stigma surrounding mental illness, improve access to help Canadians living with mental illness, raise awareness of mental health issues in the workplace, and raise funds for research into new treatment methods.
“Far too many families are struggling to find the help and support that they need to overcome mental illness,” Ms. May concluded. “I thank Bell for starting this important dialogue and helping Canadians in need.”
