Statement on Armenian Genocide Memorial Day

Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising Armenian Genocide Memorial Day:

“This is a solemn day as we mark the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. I am keenly aware of the realities facing Armenians today. The recent annexation of Artsakh by Azerbaijan has displaced thousands of ethnic Armenians. Indigenous Armenian leaders and hostages continue to be held as POWs by Azerbaijan.

Armenian culture is rich and Armenians have a right to exist and live in security. Today, during Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month, we commemorate all those lost in the Armenian Genocide.”
