Statement on Korean War Veterans Day

Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich—Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising Korean War Veterans Day:

”Today we commemorate the Canadians who fought as part of the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations in the Korean War. They all deserve our gratitude. More than 26000 Canadians bravely served in Korea and 516 lives were taken far too soon from those who loved them back home. The last two years of the war saw brutal clashes at a static, heavily defended battle line, pushing our soldiers to the limit. Still they persevered. Our veterans deserve our deepest respect for the sacrifices they made in this horrific conflict. We must always strive for peace and never again return to this bloodshed.”
