Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP elect for Saanich–Gulf Islands, recognising Red Dress Day:
“Today I am thinking of the thousands of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) who were taken from this earth far too soon. So many of their loved ones still do not have answers or justice.
Red Dress Day is both a time for remembrance and a call to action. We need a Red Dress Alert emergency system, reliable ground transportation to reduce hitchhiking, and a resolution to the longstanding clean water crisis. There is no excuse for continued inaction – Canada must implement all the Calls for Justice outlined in the final report of the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S+.”
