Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising the anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter in 1945.
“Today is the anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter in 1945. I am campaigning in New Brunswick where there is local pride in hero John Peters Humphrey, principal author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UN brings us together to address global problems that transcend borders. I am committed to seeing Canada fulfill its climate obligations under the Sustainable Development Goals targets for 2030 and the Paris Agreement. Canada has also played an outsized role in building United Nations peacekeeping and human rights. Ending famine, increasing education for girls and investing in sustainable and inclusive economic growth are goals that everyone can unify behind. This is why I wear my Sustainable Development Goals pin.”
