Please read the following statement from Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, recognising Transgender Day of Remembrance:
“Each year as I recognise Transgender Day of Remembrance, my heart is with my dear friend Dr. Susan Roddy who we lost in 2017. She was selflessly dedicated to her work at Brandon University, inspiring students and colleagues with her brilliant contributions to mathematics. Still, she faced discrimination, exclusion and violence as a trans woman. Years later, the transgender community in Canada continues to be targeted simply for existing. We will always remember Susan and all those who have left this earth too soon.
